Daily Class Procedures
Each day your happy face can be seen on campus, here are Ms. Mathis' student expectations
Entering the classroom – When students enter the room, they need to be quiet and begin working the SPUR (Student Persistence to Use resources) activity for the day. Many times this is to open the student OneNote page for the day and give a quick look at what is in store for the student that day and possibly answer questions from the previous class or questions to spur on the student for the day’s activity.

Tardy – the classroom door will be closed when the tardy bell rings. Students must obtain a tardy pass from the designated administrators office to be able to enter the classroom.
Lesson – students will be given lesson objectives, essential question, activity procedures, the type of evaluation and the space to add notes to the OneNote page or to their Justification Journals.
Exiting the classroom – Before exiting the classroom,
- all supplies must be returned to the proper location
- the computer workstation must be returned to the start position (student has signed out and replaced peripherals in the proper location)
- the area around the computer and the chair in which the student is sitting must be verified as clean
- the students must remain seated and wait to be dismissed; the bell does not dismiss the students.
Bathroom policy – no learning goes on when a student is in the bathroom. It is better for a student to use the facilities in between classes. If a student needs to go, they must adhere to the following school procedures. Failure to following these procedures could result in parent communication.
- Student MUST wear (not carry) the vivid vest so that the 621 number is visible on your back
- No electronics are to be used in the hallways when using the pass.
- Student MUST wear your ID around your neck
- Student MUST stay on the 2nd Floor of Building 6 when going to the restroom
- Student MUST refrain from disrupting other classes while passing through the halls
Student expectations
- Be on time and ready to learn
- No food, drinks (other than water), gum/candy, or visible electronic devices are allowed in the classroom
- Cell phones must be off and out of sight. If this becomes a problem, students will be directed to place their phone in the Cell Hotel on my classroom wall until the end of the period. If this becomes a regular habit, parent contact will be made.
- No cursing or negative comments – the classroom should be a safe place for all students
- Be respectful at all times
- No hats, hoods or sunglasses will be worn in class (as per the school rules.)
Teacher expectations
- Be prepared for all students
- Be mindful that all students come to class with different strengths and weaknesses
- Be willing to be available to students to improve community within the classroom
- Be willing to say “not at this moment” rather than “no” (unless absolutely necessary)
Behavior Steps and Consequences
If a student chooses to break a rule, appropriate action will be taken. For the first offense, the student will receive a verbal reprimand. On the second offense, parents will be called or emailed. See student handbook for subsequent offense and discipline procedures. Depending on the severity of the infraction, the student may be referred to the Assistant Principal immediately.
